Getting used to India

I always like to catch up on local news in whatever city I'm in. Though it's always the same, crime, rape, murder, etc. The personal ads only have men looking for women...

The reception for Fulbright Scholars

At the reception the first night with other Fulbright Scholars. These ladies traveled from India to the United States. Rashmi (on the far left) spent 6 months in Minneapolis and had NEVER experienced winter before in her life! She and I became good freinds and I visited her school.

I am a very tall person in India.

The gentleman on my right is the ambassador from Austria and his wife. (He insisted I practice some German with him.) She's a famous dancer (Kathak style) in India and performed for us a few days later. The style of Kathak is evident on wall carvings from 2,000 years ago.

California then Delhi

It's architecture like this I came to see, Humayan's tomb, built by his senior wife in 1565. Beautiful Persian architecture with formal gardens, like a prayer rug, Paradise on earth.

First two days of intense study about India at Berkeley in California.

Then fly to Newark airport and then non-stop to Delhi.

Only 14 hours of flying and 16 Fulbright Scholars land in Delhi, India.

We are presented with bouquets of roses,

it's hot and humid and dogs are EVERYWHERE!

I have no idea what time it is or what day it is but the view from my room

in the Taj Mahal hotel is magnificent.

Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque ruins. Pillars use Hindu motifs of bells and garlands. To create the Mosque, many parts were used from razed Hindu temples that were nearby.
